About Nicola McLean

  • Biography

Hi, I'm Nicola McLean. I'm an Irish artist currently living in the far north of Scotland. Inspired by all animals, the wonder of nature and the sometimes surprising beauty of the urban landscape, my paintings tend to include elements of all three to varying degrees, all of which I re-imagine with a vibrant palette and a vivid imagination.

I work predominantly in acrylics – paints, inks and spray paint because they dry quickly and give me the vibrancy that I love.

I take part in local exhibitions regularly am delighted that my paintings are hanging in private collections all over the UK as well as in America, Canada, Australia, China and Europe.

    2014

Winner of the GreatArt Postcard Challenge

I won first place in the GreatArt Postcard challenge 2014. It was an open theme with the only stipulation being that art must be painted on postcard size paper/canvas. I painted a close up scene of a leaf on a gravel driveway soaked with rain drops. It was a very realistic representative piece which, actually, is a style I have found myself moving further away from as I now prefer a looser more painterly style.
