About Marie Green

  • Biography

Painting has been my consuming passion since starting to paint in late 2007.  The luscious feel of rich oil paint finding its way across stretched canvas is addictive and very few days have passed without me succumbing to that passion.  I am still amazed and thankful for the success my works enjoyed during those early years.  Winning competitions, exhibiting overseas and having successful big city exhibitions has allowed me to continue and expand two separate and yet intrinsically joined fields for my art.

My studio is part of our almost glasshouse home on top of a small hill overlooking tropical natural bushland, valley and horizon of the Coral Sea. The light here is very strong, bright and enriches the hues and the tones in the way only the Tropics can produce. All around me is the inspiration and challenge I love.

It is true, certainly for me, that every painting holds something of the artist's soul. Just a little touch that holds the joy of giving. I want my works to invite you into them - to see the beauty and pleasure.

Event: Marie Green's Reflections on Yesteryear

    Dates: 15 May 2015 - 27 Jun 2015

Venue: Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, Gladstone Queensland Australia

This will be a unique exhibition for the State of Queensland. I am creating a visual and aural body of work for today's and future generations to see and hear about the extraordinary yet common folk of Queensland whose jobs became redundant as the century progressed.

Before all living memory is lost for the jobs I selected, I record the worker telling his or her story of how things were done - and many a lively tale they told me! Sometimes I have had to use people who heard about the work first hand from the grand-parents.

There will be 30 new original works in the exhibition. #26 is on the easel for New Year completion then only 3 to go.
