About Gianfranco La Cognata

  • Biography
Laco2 is my nickname, I'm Gianfranco La Cognata, an Italian architect living and working in Barcelona since 1996. I was drawing and painting like an obsessive until I was 13 years old. Then little by little, life was, let's say "straightening out" towards its rules and gears, in which art barely managed to find space. This is how I turned myself into my professional career as an architect and for 30 years I never touched a brush again. For 3 years, as a result of important personal events, art has once again been the protagonist in my life, until it became a profession parallel to that of architect. Therefore, my artistic career is still very short, but very intense. During the quarantine of 2020, I came to paint 40 paintings that I exhibited for the first time in the Nau Bostik, a great exhibition space in Barcelona, with the title "Sincerely, Laco2". In it I presented all my artistic, technical and conceptual evolution, of the 2 years of activity that I had been, after a long "lethargy". The artistic passion that moves me is the love for beauty and for the image in general, for the ability it has to move through its narrative and style. Therefore, the topics covered in my works are different, although always linked to my personal life, my memories, my environment and my interests. Even my style can vary depending on the theme or the technique adopted. Personally, I am passionate about all expressive languages, but only if they are capable of knowing how to move on their own, without having to resort to other languages. An image has to be able to attract me without any words, titles or texts that reveal the meaning of its content. Also for this reason, in the last 3 years I have dedicated myself to teaching different techniques of representation, giving courses in different schools of design and architecture. Now I decided to sell my works in artfinder, because I believe that this sort of "virtual gallery" of art gives the possibility of reaching a wider public and better disseminating what I do.
