About Katherine Jennings

  • Biography
Having traveled extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, my paintings reflect my love of travel.  I view everything with an artistic eye and am constantly on the lookout for new enticing subjects.  I work both en plein air and from my photographs in my studio. With diverse subjects ranging from an abandoned sugar plantation in Nevis to the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, I try to capture the incredible beauty found in such unique locations. Finding that the world can be transformed by the ephemeral beauty of light, my challenge is to capture that fleeting moment in my paintings.  I particularly enjoy painting architectural landscapes and cityscapes in oil and admire the work of Edward Hopper, among other artists. Spending considerable time in New Orleans, my work has been featured in a Garden District gallery for local artists.  I also enjoy painting portraits and still life.

I was recently chosen to participate in the Spring Semester of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Copyist Program in New York City and am currently copying a master painter in the American wing of the Museum.
