  • Biography
My paintings were originally inspired by my experience of drawing portraits of people with long standing mental health problems, attempting to express their loneliness, isolation and sadness. I was intrigued by observing that although being in a room full of other people, there was no communication, individuals were seemingly trapped in their own inner worlds. This experience led to my decision to combine my desire to understand and help people with my artistic interest, so after completing a fine art degree, I trained as an Art Therapist and worked in various mental health settings over a 27 year period. I have recently taken up painting seriously. My art work tends to be bold and colourful. My recent most expressive art work depicts my interpretation of human emotions, including isolation, loss, love and hope through the use of colour, texture and simplistic sculptural forms.
