About Hazel Ang

  • Biography
I am a nomad currently based in Munich, Germany. After finishing design school in Toronto Canada, I moved to Germany where I worked as a graphic artist for over a decade making user graphics and illustrating instruction manuals for famous coffee machines and household appliances. In 2012, feeling a need to reduce computer work, I returned to painting. From 2015-2017 on self-imposed artist sabbatical, I lived in New England in the artistically rich city of Lowell, just outside of Boston where I finished a series of paintings inspired by a garden at night. I exhibited in several group shows there and had one solo show (which included over 30 works). My work was represented at several art fairs in the US and Germany and are exhibited regularly. I paint usualy in a series which usually starts off as a story in my imagination. Sketches are made outlining the main elements in my story and transferred to surface. With strong line-work and painterly gestures, dark tones become punctuated with moments of light, and tales of near and far are presented. Mysticism, animism, and alchemy are all familiar elements in my work.
