About Cecil Kemperink

  • Biography
Creating and making art is what makes me very happy and what I love to do. Art gives us joy, let us wonder, connect, amaze, inspire. We create a more lovely world when we include art. I live on a island with beautiful nature; the perfect place to create and share.

    Ceramics in motion
‘Motion is a key part of the expressiveness of my sculptures.
The movements show the importance of each circle. Every ring is essential and influences the other; they are all connected, they are all one. Every link wears the symbolism of a circle: conjunction, connection, power, endlessness, an eternally ongoing movement.
I am inspired by the rhythms of nature. Every day I see and experience so many changes. Beautiful drawings are scarved with sand by the waves. The beach holds them for a little while, before wind and water changes their designs. Over and over again. Silhouettes of branches are dancing in the wind. Sometimes stormy and hard to see, sometimes calm and clearly.
Every time and everywhere, I experience movements creating new beauty.’

    About Cecil and her art
As a curious and sensitive child/teenager she followed many art and dance classes. After one year at the fashion academy, she switched to visual arts, where the love to explore different materials was encouraged. After her graduation she started  with wheel throwing and that was the beginning of a deep understanding and eagerness to ‘talk’  with clay.
Her sculptures are connections between her varied passions: textile, clay, dance, fashion and sculpture.
She explores space and plays with rhythm, shape/form, movement, energy and sound. Cecil’s work is telling you a story. Listen, see, feel and experience what happens when the sculptures move and enjoy the moment.

Her professional practice has taken her to exhibitions, performances and catwalk shows. Kemperink has exhibited in Milan (I) - South Korea (ROK) -  Mino Japan (J) - Vallauris (F) - and many other museums and galleries.
Cecil Kemperink’s work can be found in the collections of: Korea Ceramic Foundation (KOCEF collection),
CODA museum (NL), The Foundation for Contemporary Ceramic Arts Kecskemét (HU), Ceramics Museum (NL) and private collections.

The IAC received outstanding applications 2019 and would like to thank the candidates and the sponsors for their support of the development of this network of enthusiastic professionals in ceramics.

It has been a pleasure to be involved in the judgement of your work: the quality of the applied works have been very high. Your art works represent a rich diversity, great variation in content, expression, size, form, colour, structures and textures, and in the use of the clay material and ceramic techniques as language. Innovative, experimental and critical.
Here is much to see, learn of and reflect on.
