    Working In the Studio

Once I have gathered inspiration from completing sketches, watercolour studies in my sketchbook as well a photographing the landscapes explored, I turn those ideas and experiences into paintings back in the studio. I secure the support that I am working on such as unstretched canvas, wooden panels, alumiunium panels to the stuido wall and begin painting. I work intuitively and refer to the source materila gathered as a guide or inital starying point. I then start to develop ideas, pushing the paint around, scraping, rubbing and flicking to achieve the desired effect. I am looking to achieve an atmospheric quality to my work that is often abstracted through the choice of colours and use of marks and gestures.

    Art Materials In The Studio

This is a photo of my desk in the studio. The oil paints I use are stored on the studio wall as it is easy to locate a colour and to keep an eyes on stock levels. I use the finest quality oil paints taht are manufactured by Wallace Seymour, small artisan British company based in Yorkshire.

Work In Progress In The Studio

This is a photograph of work that is in progress in the studio. I work on a variety of different sized canvases, aluminium and wood panels, building up the surface of each composition instinctively and intuitively. The work included in this image are all oil paintings in progress at various stages.
