About Paul Simpkins

  • Biography

A semi-professional artist, I graduated from Swindon School of Art & Design in 1987, gaining a BTEC HND in Graphic Design & Illustration, which enabled me to work as a freelance illustrator/designer in the advertising and editorial sectors. In 2010 I gained a BA (Hons) in Humanities with Art History & Music from The Open University.

I still live near my birthplace of Malmesbury in North Wiltshire, and after graduating from The Open University I decided to move into the fine art market place. I now mostly work oils or soft pastels, and take as my main source of inspiration the local surrounding countryside, in particularly the Ridgeway, Westonbirt Arboretum, and the beautiful, Georgian city of Bath.

My workstyle varies between tight Realism and Impressionism, and over the years, I have tackled a variety of subjects and commissions, from  portraiture to foreign landscapes, seascapes, architecture, animal portraiture, steam locomotives to classic cars.
