About Griselle Morales Padrón

  • Biography
I was born on January 3, 1973 in Havana, Cuba.
I studied art in a self-taught way until I studied Fine Arts at the Superior Art Institute of Havana (ISA) from 1993 to 1998. I practiced for ten years as an artist and art curator / specialist, mainly in Contemporary Art Centers.
I always leaned towards a feminine poetics as a form of self-knowledge and knowledge of the world, I was initially interested in naive and naturalistic forms and in a later stage I evolved towards more abstract forms as a methodology for the evasion of reality.
Many times they derived my ideas, drawings and installations in surrealist versions, in re-readings of the everyday from naivety and dream. I participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and in countries such as: Spain, United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany and Switzerland where I was linked to Havana Galerie in Zürich.
In 2009 I moved my residence to the Basque Country and my artistic career slowed down. Study Graphic design at the School of Design of San Sebastian (CEINPRO) 2012 - 2014, to explore new creative ways and equip myself with more technological tools and a much more computerized work process. It is from this moment that drawing becomes my main way of artistic expression.

Drawing is a very useful technique and allows me to continue creating without the technical and economic difficulties that would involve having a study of larger dimensions, drawing is my emotional escape. About the drawings: I like to use the computer as a base, I often compose from a photo or an image and transform them until I get the desired result and I can transfer it to paper. In the drawing I choose traditional methods, cleanliness in the composition and centralization of the image. I like that my works are naturalistic but with naive touches, like who sees the world for the first time. They tell a surrealist story, mixing human nature with plant and animal motifs; They are characters trapped in their stories. My favorite media are: watercolor pencils, ordinary pencils and watercolor. I also like to make collages, mixed media and work with inks and acrylics
