About Elaine Ford

  • Biography
My work is an amalgamation of drama, imagination, and memory, with elements of the sublime.  I have a passion for the sea, which is my initial starting point and touchstone.  The interaction with materials is the way I engage myself with the unconscious/subconscious and actual sea and concepts of the sea.  This, I can feel free to use in whichever direction I choose. The physical act of pouring and pushing paint around the canvas is an intrinsic part of my practice.

Having pursued a career in television and films for many years as a stunt co-ordinator and performer, has led to "the dramatic" being an important value in my life.  Subsequently, these qualities have been my guideline for the constituents of my art making within the last few years.

I work mostly with Acrylic, Mixed Media and Oils.  My paintings are inspired by the natural landscape and the desire to capture the sense of place and emotional responses the sea and landscape can evoke, whilst leading the viewer on a visual journey.  I have a passion for colour and use artistic intuition to record memory and experience of a place, which are not wholly committed to a specific region or time, but instead aim to encapsulate a synthesis of place, the elements and atmosphere.
