Artist's description:

In my figurative works, I strive to celebrate humankind in all their myriad shapes, shades and sizes. Through working directly in front of a live model, and by applying paint direct to the canvas with a palette knife, I hope to convey the raw beauty and immediacy of the moment. Later, I apply the gold leaf that works to illuminate and elevate the figure. The way such a deceptively soft figure can appear powerful with her stance and staff in hand, is what makes this piece so appealing to me.

Like most of the gilded Humanist Icon works, this piece has gold leaf on the gallery edges, so it looks great hung unframed.

Materials used:

oil paint and gold leaf applied to canvas, including gallery-depth edges (can be hung without framing)
