This painting depicts a birch woodland close to my home, transformed by snow into a peaceful and captivating winter landscape. Soft shadows sweep across the pristine white ground, while delicate winter sunlight casts gentle pink tones across the scene. The dark, richly textured bark of the birch trees provides a striking contrast against the luminous snow.
Created from a semi-abstract perspective, this painting is my personal interpretation of the forest’s beauty, atmosphere, and complexity, a place where observation, memory, and imagination come together. Full of colour, movement, and energy, the work is intended to bring a sense of life and vitality to any space, while inviting the viewer to pause, wander, dream, and connect with the ever-changing rhythm of the natural world.
This one-of-a-kind artwork is painted in high-quality acrylics on a thin edged canvas. My process begins outdoors, spending time immersed in the landscape and observing its changing light, colours, and forms. I capture these initial impressions through sketches, written notes, and photographs, which later become reference points in the studio as the painting develops.
Working intuitively, I begin with broad, expressive brushstrokes to establish the composition and atmosphere. I then gradually build layers of texture using impasto techniques and a palette knife, creating depth and movement across the surface. Inspired by the optical colour-mixing techniques of the Impressionists, I use vibrant, expressive colours and energetic marks that appear to blend together when viewed from a distance, revealing an immersive and atmospheric woodland scene.
The sides of the canvas are painted white, it is signed on the front and is supplied without a frame but has a cord at the back for hanging.
