This is my original watercolour of a Cornish hedgerow in the Winter. A loose, expressive watercolour depicting the grasses and plants in the hedgerow including gorse. I have kept the colour palette the same throughout in a mixture of wintry dark greens and browns.
It is painted in artist quality Daniel Smith watercolours on cold pressed 300gsm watercolour paper. It is a loose, expressive piece that I painted entirely without any initial drawing. I saturated the paper with water and then let the paint do it's thing but used various tools to create energy, texture and movement including a knife, a straw for blowing the paint and the end of my paint tube. The image is 32cm x 40cm, however, although I have worked within a certain size, I have allowed the wet washes to find their own edges within the A2 paper, so you have the option of framing with these edges showing or cropped as in the image provided.
