Artwork description:

Loch Mealt is a small loch at the northern end of the Isle of Skye, our house and forthcoming gallery look onto this beautiful scene. The sides of the loch are dotted with tiny cottages and the crystal clear waters run out of the loch over the cliff and into the sea, creating the stunning waterfall (Mealt Falls) at Kilt Rock. On a clear morning in December, the sun coming up on the horizon turned the Trotternish ridge pink and the waters of Loch Mealt silver. In the background, Beinn Edra and the Hill of the Red Fox with its distinctive conical shape and in the foreground the remains of a broch (ancient small castle) that was inhabited over two thousand years ago. This loch has been landlocked since the ice age and is home to rare fish that can only be found in a few places in the world. This is a place of incredible natural beauty that speaks a story of history through the ages.

I photograph and print every image, I do not outsource any part of my workflow. Each canvas has been painstakingly crafted to ensure the true colours, resolution and texture are exactly as they should be.

For these special small editions of my work I use Canson® Infinity Museum ProCanvas. This fabulous 100% cotton canvas has been designed "for professionals producing true Fine Art Reproductions that require precision images with a very high resolution".

Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper and canvas for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, Canson has the choice of many famous artists such as Picasso, Ingres, Chagal and Miro to name but a few. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.

The canvas is printed and quality checked by me, it is then varnished with two coats of Hannemuhle matte varnish to protect it from scratches. The print is made with a gallery wrap - this means the outer edges have been prepared to wrap round a frame of 1.5 - 2 inches. This gives the illusion of 3D when it is hung on the wall. It is not mounted on the frame due to the difficulty of shipping such a large item. It is rolled and shipped in a tube so it will arrive in perfect condition.

By using beautiful Canson Museum ProCanvas paper combining it with the fabulous non-fade Epson Ultrachrome K3 with Vivid Magenta inkset of 9 colours, I can produce a print of exceptional quality which will last a lifetime without fading.
