Artist's description:

My impression of the Elizabeth Montagu (1718-1800), a Duchess and society hostess in the new age of the enlightenment. With other women and some supportive men she inspired a new kind of intellectual community. They were nicknamed 'Bluestockings' after the woolen stockings worn by working men. The Duchess lived in Greenwich near to my home.

Materials used:

Charcoal and ink, with fabric and thread, on paper.
