'When You Are...' is an original drawing in pen and ink and pencil on hand stained paper.
This work measures 250mm x 190 mm in size.
Taking words from the moving poem by W. B. Yeats entitled 'When You Are Old', this work is a tribute to the moments when you want to contemplate and reflect...the hare in this piece does that by bathing in a moonlit night and reflecting on the words of the piece. I find this is an essential thing to do in life...take time to think and reflect and I find this drawing quite moving when I combine the image with the words.
I've used a sprinkle of collage in this piece, using stained torn words from an old book of mine to add depth and texture to the work.
I've also left a lot of sky in this work...I like the idea of feeling the infinite space around us, the hugeness of things that give our lives some perspective.
