"Waves" is a Collage of various sea fronts in England, ranging from beaches in Devon, Dorset, Scotland and East England. I love the varying frontier where the sea meets land, and people's interaction with the sea at this point. Seen from a distance, the lines of the sea's horizon bring together the myriad of images in an almost geometric way. Close up, the viewer can see documentary images taken of people on British beaches.
This work is one of my signature photographic collages. For each artwork, I take hundreds of images of life in motion in a chosen landscape over a period of time. Through the deliberate process of choosing and editing my photographs a pattern evolves creating a new and unique landscape—compressing both time and space into a singular artwork. I am interested in expanding the photographic singular moment into a distinctive work of art which encompasses many moments.
I've produced seven large-scale collages to date, which include depictions of typical urban experiences such as escalators and Tube trains, contrasting with the more open, natural spaces of the seaside and Hampstead Heath. In 2012 the collage "Escalators" was released to the media where it was published worldwide to critical acclaim. The collages were most recently exhibited at the Koukan Gallery, North London in November 2014 in the show "So Near, So Far".
