Watching the forge fires fade is an evocation of the impact of the decline of the steel industry in Sheffield on its people and communities. Painted for my exhibition 'We are not in the least afraid of ruins' in 2013, I greatly enjoyed combining the figurative elements with the more abstract style of the main body of the painting.
