Tucked away on the west side of the lakes is the Wasdale valley. It is one of those awe inspiring places that contains not only the deepest lake in England but also sits at the bottom of the highest peaks in England, the Scafells. You cannot visit this valley and fail to be impressed with the grandeur on display which is probably why I have painted it so may times.
It does not matter how many people are in the valley (which is usually not many) you can still usually hear a pin drop such is the effect this place has on you. It's almost like everyone is scared to talk above a whisper in case they wake the sleeping giants sitting up in the clouds that usually shroud the peaks in an air of mystery.
