Artist's description:

This painting was part of a series I did on London - inspired by my long daily commute across the city. In my paintings I explored the lost, forgotten, decaying parts of the city – the street corners that are too mundane to stay in your mind or alleyways with rubbish strewn all over.

Out of this urban decay I crafted unusual, magical portraits of the city. Instead of commonplace scenes the streets of London turn into a fantastical wasteland, populated by exotic animals and glamorous, out of place characters. For instance in 'Waiting for Joy and Approval at Peckham Rye' a 1950s Hollywood actress stands amid the rubbish and graffiti by Peckham Rye station.

The aim of the painting is to make the viewer think again about how they see the city around them and to encourage them to look for beauty in even the most urban and industrial landscapes.
