Original artwork description:
Looking NE from the spit of land that shelters the basin at Pool on the West side of Sanday, Orkney where the Norsemen kept their longships. To the right of this there was an extensive Norse settlement excavated in the 80s.
The remains of a NW gale roll in out of the North Sound as a fulmar glides past the face of an incoming sea.
This part of Sanday's West side is characterised by low cliffs from Grunavi Head up to the lower lying Ness of Brough and the Holms of Ayre.
