Artist's description:

For some reason I am gravitating to producing paintings in the "Tonalist" tradition lately. This is a prime example of what I am talking about. I have a daylight digital view of this scene that was my "spin-off" for this work. I usually do not use black as a color. In this case I intermixed Ivory Black as it is a transparent color, then glazed over ultramarine blue and alizarin crimson underpainting. The composition is basically a "sky" painting - the bottom one third a ground scene with the balance of the panel being sky. Stepping into this scene was an adventure in paint for me. I feel really small when painting a scene like this. This work shows well in a platinum gold frame. Oil on canvas board panel with Gamvar finish. Enjoy...if you can!
