I have had a reoccurring trend of elephants and a strange obsession with linear shapes in my sketches lately and this piece is a prime example. What originally started out as a pink background, transferred to a baby blue, and eventual incorporated the outline of an elephant. This piece was made over the course of a months time. Countless remasters and touch up followed every week of it's creation until it was done to my heart desires. The initial background lines had a deep Aristotle and star gazing effect, made to represent early sketches of his anatomy studies and mathematical connectivity. While the top layer of multiple shades of yellow and orange were used a symbolism to show how even though we have progressed , we still rely on what was discovered during that essential time period in history.
This piece involves the use of many different types of media. The underlying layers are both acrylic and can be seen on the sides of the canvas where paint was dripped, splattered and smeared. On top on the blue layer there was the addition of oil and a extra heavy gloss gel to give the effect of a drip. From oil the pigment was glazed with a shower of acrylic spray paint to give a transitioning effect, and finally topped off with hours of precise line work done with both brush and marker.
