Gondolas moored on a Venetian canal as the sun is about to set. A visit to Venice a few years ago left me with an abiding passion for the place. In all my paintings of Venice I try to express the mysterious atmosphere of its backwaters. Here, I am harking back to the beautiful travel paintings of artists who made The Grand Tour like my hero John Singer Sargent. I feel that I captured that golden hazy late afternoon light peculiar to Venice, and the classic distressed gold frame perfectly compliments the opulent colors in the painting.
