This work involves a reinterpretation on the theme of the annunciation. The image of Mary is in many ways borrowed from Leonardo da Vinci's "Virgin and Child with St. Anne." She is shown with a series of astrological symbols across her white blouse, depicted in gold leaf. At the time I had an interest in syncretic mysticism, so therefore this painting allows for the coincidence of eastern and western religions. In the left-hand corner, there is a flag with Sanskrit letters, which read "Sphut Shausamna Dikkanya" which means, "The bursting open of the heavenly light of the Virgin."
