Exploring with different color combinations is always something that is fun and exciting, but sometimes it takes an old favorite to remind yourself of how far you have come. This color pallet was used on a similar piece during the summer of 2014 when I had painted Charles Darwin in a painting named "sandman". During that time I was going blind and essentially shooting for the stars, with this painting it was quiet the opposite. Since it is mid semester for me in college at the moment, I rarely get free time to paint, but I have countless doodling episodes where I plan out new pieces. I am happy to say that this in in fact not one of those planned pieces, but instead conceptually built. I wanted to express the concpet of limitless. Whether it be from emotions to situations, I wanted to grasp this with just one image. And personally, nothing is more limitless than the ever changing tones of gold and copper. In different angles of direct light, different surroundings, and different perspectives, the shimmer of these two colors has no bounds. This color patten keeps the piece evolving and fresh everytime you see it. This topped with a mysterious and promiscuous figure is a combination that will unquestionably grab the attention and imagination of anybody who walks by. There are no limits in when creating a piece of artwork, this includes the choice of medium and technique. To create a truly limitless painting I wanted to eliminate the drying times that are typically associated with oil paintings. Painting in layers is something I have been formally taught but also learned through experimentation. With this piece, everything was painting using a wet on wet technique. The paint remained wet and ever changing to give the variety of golds, coppers, and deep brown tones. By eliminating a restricting step in this painting I can truly say it was created from the ground up with the theme of being limitless. This theme is something that can be associated with everyone, but it must be embraced, for the only thing holding you back is yourself.
