These two horizontal stripe paintings are influenced by the colorfield and Op art movements and artists Gene Davis and Bridget Riley. They continue my investigations into different art styles which I remix into new interpretations. Foremost they are minimalist color experiments again following my instincts with no preset rules other than the composition would be horizontal stripes. They involve many changes in color back and forth until I feel a certain balance, rhythm and repetition. I used acrylic paint on gallery wrapped archival quality heavy duty cotton duck canvas. The one and a half inch depth of the canvas and the many layers of paint give the canvas an almost sculptural quality. I experimented showing the canvas on top of a shelf in a side view instead of the traditional presentation on a wall to great effect. The work is titled, dated and signed on the reverse. The image wraps around the entire canvas, so there is no need for framing, ready to hang.
