I have been lucky enough to travel around parts of Africa twice in my life and one day I hope to return. There is something magical about the country. The stunning beauty of the landscapes and the people have stayed imprinted on my memory.
In this portrait I used the graphic nature of a linocut print to its full potential as often all this medium asks for is a strong but simple image to capture the full essence of what the artist want to portray, and for me this was the strength and beauty of a woman.
For the colour I used hand painted tissue paper which is called chine colle' a technique that adds a wonderful translucent quality to the overall image.
