This drawing is one of a recent series of ten entitled “Tree and River” made between 2012 and 2014 at the same spot on the banks of the Claise, my local river in the sud-Touraine region of central France (drawings 5, 7 and 8 were sold prior to me joining ArtFinder). They were made “en plein air” (literally “in the open air” / outdoors on location) in early Spring before new leaves formed on the tree’s delicate branches.
Seated at the riverside I used large 70 x 50 cm sheets of cold-pressed, Arches Platine paper, with a colour palette of either black coffee or fountain pen ink diluted to make the delicate brown or blue painted backgrounds representing flowing water, which was then overdrawn with a Faber-Castell black permanent oil pastel to represent the trees and branches.
Note: This original artwork will be shipped in a large-diameter, thick-walled tube for maximum protection in the mail. For any purchaser requiring the artwork to be packed flat for transit please e-mail me for a revised mailing charge as calculated by the French post office. However, if two or more of this series are purchased I will mail them to any address world-wide in a decorative portfolio case... post free!
