This is the first of a series of tree prints I will be making. This one being a silhouette of a tree I saw on the way to beer in Devon. I thought it was unusual and interesting, almost a bit Tim Burton in the way that some of the lower branches almost spiraled. So I photographed the tree and then later started to etch the image into a piece of copper by hand using a scribe.
I have included a photo of the copper plate with ink in the burrs so that you can see where the print comes from. I am pleased with the image, and feel it takes on an almost Japanese quality. It is very delicate and subtle but at the same time powerful and bold, which is somewhat unusual. I hope you enjoy it.
