Traces IV - For the #ArtfinderLiquitex Muted Collection I asked my good ol' "Art Terms Dictionary" for its definition to see if this work fits:
"Mute, color which is used, or appears, at less than full strength; restrained color."
Restraining the underlaying colors is what I intended in this painting to bring the focus on its sculptural structure and texture. This is perhaps an extreme interpretation of the theme "muted colours", but restraint is at work in this painting, although not towards dark but light.
Around a vintage American wooden art board a canvas is wrapped. The board gives the pastose (thick) paints the stability necessary.
The painting has both high and low areas, which depending on the surrounding light give it the quality of a relief, muted colors are adding to the subtelty ... The build-up structures of paint and the visible surface of the muslin give it a very rich contrasting texture.
Sides are painted white, a hanger is (will be) attached to the back.
30,5 x 21,5 cm / 12" x 8 " (inch)
It can hang upright as well...
Happy to see, that Traces IV made it on the MUTED COLLECTION shortlist: https://www.artfinder.com/featured-collections/artfinder-liquitex/?page=1
