Traces III - High format or landscape both directions work on the wall. This painting reminds me of my time in New York City - of walks under the orange "Gates" by Christo and Jean-Claude in Central Park 2005, and of the life changing horror event in 2000 - a cathartic painting this most likely is.
Around an old American wooden art board a canvas is wrapped and stapled, differently than I would cut it, but it's vintage and I wanted to use it as is – beautiful to me, to others I don’t know… I can always close it with passepartout cardboard or otherwise for you. The board gives the pastose (thick) paints the stability necessary.
This painting has both high and low areas, which depending on the surrounding light give it the quality of a relief...
The build-up structures of paint and the visible surface of the muslin give it a rich contrasting texture.
The sides are painted white, a hanger is (will be) attached to the back.
