Artist's description:

One of my Ladies Looking Places, this piece is a partner to "To Know."

Our redhead lady is painted with watercolor and gesso, which gives a gouache-effect to the painting. I created her flower crown from cut and gathered muslin dyed in red wine, and sewed it directly to the paper. Her fascinator-style veil is made of free, movable loops of thread.

I was inspired by the color cerulean blue, which connotes a space that is lonely as well as vulnerable. I also wanted to use sewn elements in my work, as my other artform is apparel design.

Due to the dimensional nature of the work, this piece does not include glass.

Materials used:

Watercolor, gesso, pencil, muslin flowers dyed with wine, thread.
