The Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex, nestled along North Dakota’s remote northern border, is one of America’s most fascinating examples of military waste. It’s a pyramid-shaped missile silo that was part of the Safeguard program, an elaborate missile-defense system meant to protect the U.S. from Soviet ballistic missiles. This bizarre building was to be the first of 12 such sites scattered across the country.

Thunderhead Over Mickelsen's Safeguard is 24 x 18 inches on stretched canvas. It is wired, gallery wrapped and ready to hang. It is number 3 in my series of North Dakota Landmarks and Thunderstorms series.
