I did this painting alla prima, which means "first attempt" and also means I did it wet on wet instead of waiting for layers to dry and laboring day after day. I have to say I feel free when I paint like this. It's deliberate, fast and I don't work it into the ground. I oscillate between the two styles I like, loose impressionism and tight realism. They are a battle to balance. This painting looks really "western", which is not really my thing. However, I really enjoy the look of the dried grasses (which were given to me as a gift from a patron and friend) the eggs are from my chickens and the skull is borrowed from a neighbor that found it in a field nearby. I am calling this one "Things of That Nature" It is 16"x30" and is on stretched linen. I hope you like it!!
