Original artwork description:

In 1740 a Swedish East Indiaman the Svecia a 600 ton vessel with 104 persons aboard was wrecked on the skerry the Reefdyke off North Ronaldsay in Orkney. Only 44 persons survived and the ship broke up in a SE gale some three days later. In 1975 divers recovered a number of artefacts including some dye wood which was part of the cargo. From upstairs in our house we can see waves breaking over the Reefdyke when it blows from the South or Southeast.
