Original artwork description:

Houses catching the sunlight in St Paul de Vence in the South of France with a view down to the sea.
The village is one of the most intact medieval examples of the region, with much of the ramparts still intact. Over the centuries, people set up house around the old church of Saint Michel du Puy and the château at the top of the hill. Thus evolved the castrum of Saint-Paul.
The winding streets take you back in time and the deep Mediterranean shadows cast their own shapes onto the old buildings. The artist Marc Chagall lived here for 19 years until his death in 1985 when he was buried in the cemetery here. The deep green foliage and cerulean blue sky contrast the ochre and mauve houses, bringing the artwork a 3D quality. The painting is strung and ready to hang.

Materials used:

Oil paint, varnish, linseed oil,canvas
