Artist's description:

The second in my Footscray underworld series - the unsolved murder of Malcolm Mclean Appleby in November 1947.
Appleby was a standover man and gambler. The police were alleged to have declared "open season" on him - that is anyone could be free to kill him - before he was shot in Nicholson Street.
Three friends with him at the time were charged. The coroner found an open verdict.
