This painting is part of a series documenting the catchment area of the river Torridge in North Devon. The river meanders lazily at this stage before it reaches the sea, and is crossed by the Tarka Trail (the former rail line) several times. The viaduct I believe used to be an aqua-duct carrying the Victorian era canal to Great Torrington.
