The rain came down like silken threads
A summer storm
An atmospheric, luminous oil painting presented in a black frame, with gold slip under palest green double mount and glass -signed by Sarah Gill 2016.
This art work is created with a palette knife on canvas to give a textured layered effect.
A copse of summer beech trees stand atop a round hill under a rainy summer sky.
The overall dimension including the frame is 14.5 x 12 inches. The actual artwork within the mount measures 9 x 7 inches.
Inspired this poem -
James Russell Lowell
Suddenly all the sky is hid
As with the shutting of a lid,
One by one great drops are falling
Doubtful and slow;
Down the pane they are crookedly crawling,
And the wind breathes low;
Slowly the circles widen on the river,
Widen and mingle, one and all;
Here and there the slenderer flowers shiver,
Struck by and icy rain-drop's fall.
