The Peacock's Call was one of the main artwork's in my latest solo exhibition, "Optical Awakening". This exhibition was an experiment in creative polymathism. I created a crocheted fiber optic costume for my model to wear, photographed her, then created a series of drawings and mixed media artworks. I also composed a song and performed it and a number of other songs at my opening night.
This piece features my cabaret/burlesque model adorned with a head piece and peacock inspired makeup.
The artwork looks best under low light. The whole exhibition was actually only illuminated with very soft lighting.
The Peacock's Call comes mounted in a handmade box and has been fitted with D hooks and hanging wire.
I often find photographing my artwork a bit tricky. The crystals in the pastel gesso that I prime the substrate with, tend to sparkle. It does give my artwork an extra type of beauty, but is a pain to photograph!
