Artist's description:

Discovering the ancient fortress of Massada a few years ago was a revelation in many ways.
The harsh conditions there were offset by the soft subtle colours of the rocks and the peacefulness of the underground chambers.

I used an encaustic collage with built up textures to depict the excavations and their setting in wilderness.

This piece of work has been created on cradled panel and is float mounted.

Materials used:

Encaustic wax, paper collage, pan pastel, inka gold, piece of shells
