An original work illustrating Edward Lear's 'The Owl and the Pussycat'. Painted on calf skin vellum in the true tradition of the Medieval illuminated miniatures. A painstaking technique starting with the full drawing. Second stage is the application of 23 carat gold leaf. Only then are the watercolour pigments applied. Starting with the palest colours ending with the deeper hues to give the the iridescent fininsh. Acid free museum quality triple mount and a brushed silver wooden frame.
The vellum is from William Cowley, who also supply the British Government and the Crown. By tradition all Acts of Parliament and Royal Proclamations are written on vellum which can last thousands of years..
