Original artwork description:

This painting is an exploration into the moment the United States killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. I saw the image on the Internet and proceeded to create an image that captured something of this moment.

Through experimenting with pixels and construction previous paintings exploring the role of digital photography and film, I proceeded to create a diptych of this photographic image, spliting the image into two parts. The Moment #1 would show President Obama in his casual dress of Golf gear and this one would focus on Hillary Clinton's reaction to whatever was happening on the screen. The construction of the piece plays with colour and process of material to give a sense of the 'looking glass' and an effect which seems to take on an element of an old mirror with it mirror spots. There also seems to be an essence of a photographic negative, which in the case of the photograph itself would not actually exist - something in some circles on the Internet thought of Osama Bin Laden, due to his 'dead' image not being shown to prove to the world it was indeed him.

These ideas on the photographic and the non-existence of a photographic negative led me to new ideas involving pixels, negatives and exploration into what exactly constitutes the term 'photograph or photographic' in the age of the digital.

Materials used:
