The artwork was inspired by the children whom I encountered along my journey to an informal settlement called Jacob Zuma View. My work communicates the effects of social and economic inequality in my community. In those instances my work explores their quest in overcoming their circumstances and I aim to recapture those moments of experience in my work. I investigate the emotional, psychological and physical impact experienced by people residing in the settlement and also how this factors tends to bring uncertainties into the future lives of many children brought up in such harsh circumstances.
I used soft charcoals, water colors, oil pastels, oil paints, acrylics paints, tea/teabags on acid free canvas to create the artwork.
