Artist's description:

This painting was inspired by one of the wonderful photographs my friend Jackson Price took on his visit to the Serengeti National Park and which he kindly allowed me to use as reference for ‘The King'
It was painted in soft pastels on velour paper which allowed me to build up layers of colour to achieve the rich and deep texture of long and short fur on this beautiful creature.
This majestic male African lion is shown in his natural habitat. He has got an air of power and wisdom about him and his obvious battle scars show that ,even at the top of the food chain, life is no breeze.
As a lover of cats, both big and small, I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to paint this amazing lion.

Materials used:

Velour paper, soft pastels
