My third and last installation for "THE GODS ARE CRYING" series is Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah 14:17 where God speaks of shedding "tears day and night" for the
"daughter of my people" .
Jesus wept over the grave of Lazarus, and he wept over the city of Jerusalem. Jesus felt the dark absence of God when he cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34) I believe such a God cries over a broken world and cries with all of us.
The Chinese incense papers that dotted the background of this painting were stamped with crosses. The crown of thorn, similarly, was collaged using Chinese Gold incense paper. I injected these asian elements into the work to represent the possibility of one identity between Guan Yin and Jesus, whom both are the ultimate embodiment of love and compassion for the human mankind.
Coincidentally, Guan Yin was born the day before Christ rose to new life.
