The Taj Mahal viewed from Agra Fort where Shah Jehan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb, this being the view the Shah himself had of his beloved's mausoleum. He was imprisoned in some degree of luxury, hence the title "The Gilded Prison". This was painted after I visited India in 2016 and is set at the beginning of the Monsoon when it is about to finally rain onto the parched earth of Central India.
