Original artwork description:

This Collage is made out of two prints from "Dante and Virgil", an 1850 oil on canvas painting by the French academic painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau. It is on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

The painting depicts a scene from Dante's Divine Comedy, which narrates a journey through Hell by Dante and his guide Virgil. In the scene the author and his guide are looking on as two damned souls are entwined in eternal combat. One of the souls is an alchemist and heretic named Capocchio. He is being bitten on the neck by the trickster Gianni Schicchi, who had used fraud to claim another man's inheritance.

The painting inspired me so much, it's power, the contrast between the writers and the thieves, the athletic bodies and the scene, that could be a bite, but could be a passionate kiss as well.

I printed the original picture in different colours and just glued one the of two protagonists in red on the other print. I love this spontaneous effect, inspired by street art as well as collage art. Further I added tesa stripes to underline the ad hoc character and painted the frame in copper. I added a last layer of epoxy resin.

None of my artwork is perfect, they are organic, there are drops of paint, tears in the paper, waves, glue residues. They are original!
